Kewaigue School

Enjoying learning and achieving, together

School Vision

This is our collective vision for our learning community. It is something that we are excited and proud of, as it provides a clear shape and direction to the future of our school.

At Kewaigue School we embrace and celebrate individuality, diversity. We encourage imaginative learning and provide opportunities for all.

We implement a progressive curriculum focussed on the 4 Cs (Creativity, Collaboration, Communication and Critical) tailored specifically to our school, with opportunities for child-led learning. This curriculum has been developed by staff with the support of outside agencies from the business and technology sectors. Explicit creative opportunities are provided for children to communicate, collaborate & think critically across the curriculum. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) alongside Literacy and the Arts, are key components. It is an achievable curriculum, ensuring coverage of key areas across the year groups.

To succeed in the digital age, children must be creative, critical thinkers who can create technology as well as consume it. We ensure children at Kewaigue are equipped with the skills and knowledge to keep pace with a world where technology has become an essential feature of our everyday lives. The use of technology is embedded across the curriculum. We have quality access to a range of technology for all pupils & staff in school and at home. We use a learning platform throughout the curriculum to foster home / school learning.

To ensure all stakeholders foster a ‘can do’ attitude to learning and technology, training in technology is regular and ongoing for staff with ‘time’ allocated to learn/embed skills. This is part of a commitment to our life-long learning ethos and ‘Growth Mindset’ culture.

At Kewaigue School, we encourage children’s connection with nature through exciting and inspiring outdoor learning experiences that are planned for across the curriculum - both on-site and off-site. We recognise the benefits of nature for mental health, social and physical well-being. There is an ongoing commitment to use and develop our own site. We engage in conservation at a local level as well as a global level and link with external agencies to develop local knowledge of habitats.

The staff and children at Kewaigue School are happy and engaged so that all children flourish socially and academically, by enjoying learning and achieving together.

School Values

As a learning community, we believe the ethos of our school should be built on a foundation of core values. Learners at Kewaigue school are helped to understand that if they use these values as a framework for the choices they make, then their behaviour will be more positive and the quality of their learning will be enhanced. These values form the basis for the social, emotional, spiritual and moral development of children at our school.

Achievement

Respect

Honesty

Friendship

Caring

Happiness

These core values are typically promoted through activities, such as school assemblies, class based circle time and activities at break and lunchtimes. Children who actively exhibit them are recognized and celebrated through our ‘Appreciation book’.
