Year 4 visited the Suez Energy Waste Plant in Douglas on Monday. The visit consisted of a tour around the plant and a workshop at the visitors’ centre which covered the environment, the Island’s waste, and the waste hierarchy. The tour was fascinating seeing how all the different areas work. A highlight was definitely the control room where the children got to see the waste arrive on the bin wagons, see it emptied into the pit and then they got a chance to use the controls to manoeuvre the waste with the ‘claw’. Our workshop was informative too discovering the importance of thinking about our waste, recycling and how we can do our bit to help the Island.
